let us proceed step by step,

list according to prestige and placement opportunities-

Group 1
1. VJTI - mumbai
1. CoEP - pune
2. walchand college sangli ( i guess )
2. VIT- pune
3. PICT - pune
4. MIT - pune
4. SIT - sinhagad - pune
5. pvg - pune
6. JSPM - tathawde
I am much ambiguous further.
rather i can say that there is a big coagulation of good colleges,
following is the list

Group 2

1. AISSMS
2. Modern engg college
3. PCCOE - akurdi
4. d.y.patil pimpri
5. cummins
6. etc etc

MOST IMPORTANTLY

few institutes such VIT,MIT,SIT have more than 1 engineering colleges.

for example - 

Maharashtra Institute of Technology has got 3/4 engg colleges,

MAIN campus MIT- kothrud.

MAEER's MIT - kothrud

Maharashtra Academy of Engg  MAE- alandi

similarly

VIT has got main college at dhankavadi,

whereas it has also got another college named VIIT at kondhwa

and

SIT has main college - vadgaon budruk

sinhagad lonavla (better to avoid this due to its location in wilderness. you always stay away from main stream engg graduate students)

I would say these colleges are better than the other Group 2 colleges.

the reason is that the placement procedure for the colleges which come under the same management/parent organisation takes place commonly and same place.

which means

for example students studying in MAE alandi, MAEER's MIT and MAIN MIT undergo same placement procedure, even though there mht-cet marks while taking admissions in the first year were drastically different.

after considering all this, there are few things to note-

1. never expect that you will get good teaching experience in your engg life. The professors are usually those who could not perform well and secure a good job in a private company.
2. Computer engg could be preferred more than IT engg.
3. and yes, computer and IT field is vulnerable to external shocks such as Recession, slowdown etcetc.
4. but as usual - if you are strong enough and ready to learn everything with zeal, nothing stands in your way.

for students with interest in computers

i would suggest following list-

1. CoEP comp
2. CoEP IT
3. VIT comp
4. VIT IT
5. PICT comp
6. PICT IT
7. MIT comp
8. SIT comp
9. MIT IT
10. SIT IT
11. VIT's other colleges and their COMP IT
12. MIT's other colleges and their COMP IT
13. SIT's other colleges and their COMP IT
14. PVG comp

16. and so on for MODERN, AISSMS, JSPM, CUMMINS, etc etc

(while going for colleges, please do consider the proximity of your home to the college)

(for 2013 CAP you have to fill in 100 options, please construct it intelligently so as to secure admission in the first admission itself. remember that it's not your marks but your rank which is going to play an important role)

Since, there are many colleges in Pune which provide engineering education, it becomes difficult to choose a right college according to your favourite branch. Some things are important to be considered while choosing your engineering college.
they could be named as below,
1) Prestige and Reputation
2) Placement opportunities
3) Convenience of Travel
and last but not least
4) Your rank in the CAP list.
You must put all the options keeping in mind your CAP rank and last years cut-off for respective colleges (which you might find in the information brochure). Besides that you should not forgot your choice of branch as every branch of every college will be having a separate code to be entered (esp. when the limit of options to be entered is 100 - for 2013).
for example
college xyz branch IT = code 12045
college xyz branch Comp = code 12046
college abc branch IT= code 13034
some what like that.
you must be firm on your choice of branch and then ready yourself to whatever college you might get after that.

(you should get a brief idea of this in the information brochure)

civil engineering
mechanical engineering
electrical engineering
production engineering (somewhat offshoot of mechanical)
instrumentation engineering (distant cousin of mechanical engineering)
electronics engineering ETX
electronics and telecommunication engineering EnTC( above electronics + satellite, television, mobile, radio, etc)
petroleum engineering (better part of further job opportunities only in Arabian countries)
polymer engineering (plastic and plastic products - offshoot of chemical engg)
chemical engineering
computer engineering (good scope for job in and around pune and all metro cities)
Information Technology engg IT(less preferred than Comp engg. because of its specificity in computer technology, more software part than comp engg.)
and there are many more engineering branches.

1. from job perspective - in software companies in and around pune and other metros, it doesn't matter whether you are a computer or IT engineer.
2. from what i count, till now electronics and electronics and telecommunication has not got much scope, due to un-availability of major and many electronic companies in India (unlike the IT sector).
3. there is still possibility of sudden boom in Electronics sector if the development of proposed delhi-mumbai corridor takes place. But again, it still has not. and therein lies the risk.
4. if you are counting on future government jobs which are engineering centered, civil, mechanical and electrical are good choice. they are core engg branches. you have got scope in state and central engineering services and other departments such as RTO(mechanical) etc.
5. this is not applicable for computer and IT. as there are meagre chances of having some govt job which needs computer and IT as graduation criteria.
6. keeping in mind the fact that India's service sector is much developed than manufacturing sector, it might be prudent to say that IT/Comp are safer than Civil/Mech/Electrical from Job perspective.
7. highly risky are the branches of petroleum, polymer, chemical etc.
8. even EnTC and ETX haven't shown expected results in the job granting field as many of the toppers from this branch choose to join IT companies because of high salaries. (perspective and choices matter)
